MYPAS is recruiting. Counsellor (Young People) East Lothian and Midlothian

Thanks to our fabulous Kiltwalkers, the Anton Jurgens Charitable Trust and The Russell Trust, MYPAS is recruiting a new Community Counsellor (East Lothian and Midlothian). This position will add important additional capacity to our free, confidential and non-judgemental Counselling Service for young people (aged 12 to 18). This service is open access meaning that anyone, including young people themselves, can refer a young person to MYPAS for support.

  • 18 hours a week
  • 26 days annual leave + 10 public holidays pro rata, to be worked flexibly to suit the needs of the service
  • Contract until June 2022 (continuation dependent on MYPAS securing further funding).
  • You must be able to travel across Midlothian and East Lothian.
  • The post may involve regular evening and occasional weekend working.

MYPAS promotes the health and wellbeing of young people across East Lothian and Midlothian and currently focuses on working in the areas of mental health and substance use. MYPAS is a community-based organisation with charitable status and based in Dalkeith, Midlothian.

The postholder will be responsible for providing counselling to young people aged 12-18 living in Midlothian and East Lothian within a holistic service. The postholder will also develop and promote further therapeutic work both within and outwith MYPAS.

Qualified to Diploma level (or equivalent) in a counselling therapeutic discipline, a member of a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP, COSCA) and have experience of working with young people, you will also be committed to delivering a service according to best practice and within community settings.

The postholder will work within a multi-disciplinary service and work effectively with other agencies in partnership settings. Contributing to the wider MYPAS service, the postholder will ensure that young people are worked with using a holistic approach through effectively linking the work of the Therapies team with other areas of MYPAS’ work as well as that of partner organisations.
