Smashed

What does the SMASHed service do?

The SMASHed service aims to promote greater awareness about the ways that drink and drugs can affect sexual health. For example, getting drunk can result in people forgetting to use condoms when having sex, or not using condoms correctly. This can run the risk of getting an infection, or becoming pregnant. Being under the influence of drink or drugs can also make it difficult to make decisions that are right for you, for example, having sex that you later regret.

How does SMASHed work?

We run different groups that young people can join. These usually run for about 12 weeks. The groups can be made up of friends or people from the same school, or it may be that people come along and meet each other for the first time. The groups meet in different places throughout Midlothian depending on who is involved.

We also offer 1:1 support for young people who prefer to see the SMASHed worker on their own. This can be a chance to discuss more personal issues. The worker can offer information about alcohol, drugs, sexual health and other health topics, and give you support to deal with issues that might be worrying you.
