Our Patron: Donnie Munro
Donnie Munro, who led Scottish band Runrig to worldwide success in the 1980s and 90s, is Patron of MYPAS.
The combination of Donnie’s background in teaching, high profile in the music industry and the fact that he lived in Midlothian for twenty years makes him the ideal patron for MYPAS.
At the height of their fame Runrig were the biggest selling band in Scotland. Donnie left them in 1997 to pursue a career in politics. He ran for parliament that year, but was narrowly beaten in the election by Charles Kennedy. A former art teacher, he was made Rector of Edinburgh University in 1991. Donnie has combined recording and performing with teaching, broadcasting and politics. He is now Director of Development at the Gaelic College on the Isle of Skye.
Donnie has said “I am absolutely delighted to have been asked to be the first ‘patron’ of MYPAS. This is a really innovative project which I know has already achieved so much in providing integrated services for young people in the area. I look forward to supporting this important initiative in any way I can.”
